Data Access Audit

Overview

The Data Access Audit tab provides a detailed log of all actions performed within the Data Access Management module for Tableau. It captures changes related to users, groups, roles, projects, reports, and associated permissions, ensuring visibility into access-related activities.

Each audit entry records who performed the action, what was modified, when the change occurred, and the source of the update. This supports traceability for compliance, governance, and accountability.

Audit data is available across multiple levels, including instance, site, site groups, site users, project permissions, and report permissions.

Instance-Level Audit

  • Date: Timestamp including date and time when the instance action occurred.

  • Audit User: The username of the person who created, updated, or deleted the instance.

  • Action: The specific activity performed, such as Create, Update, or Delete.

  • Description: A summary describing the action taken on the instance.

Site-Level Audit

  • Date: Timestamp including date and time when the site-level action occurred

  • Audit User: The username of the person who performed the action

  • Connection Name: The name of the connector associated with the site

  • Action: The specific activity performed on the site, such as Crawl, Update, or Status Change

  • Description: A summary of the action taken on the site

Site Groups-Level Audit

  • Date: Timestamp including date and time when the group-level action occurred

  • Tableau Group: The name of the Tableau group affected

  • Audit User: The username of the person who performed the action

  • Action: The specific activity performed, such as Add, Update, or Delete

  • Description: A summary of the change made to the Tableau group

Site Users-Level Audit

  • Date: Timestamp including date and time when the user-level action occurred

  • Tableau User Name: The username of the Tableau user affected

  • Audit User: The username of the person who performed the action

  • Action: The specific activity performed, such as Add, Update, or Delete

  • Description: A summary of the change made to the Tableau user

Project Permissions-Level Audit

  • Date: Timestamp including date and time when the permission change occurred

  • Site: The name of the Tableau site where the project resides

  • Project: The name of the Tableau project where the permissions were modified

  • Groups/Users: The groups or users whose permissions were added, updated, or removed

  • Privileges: The specific permissions affected, such as View, Edit, or Publish

  • Audit User: The username of the person who performed the action

  • Action: The specific permission-related activity performed

  • Description: A brief explanation of the permission change

Report Permissions-Level Audit

  • Date: Timestamp including date and time when the report permission change occurred

  • Site: The name of the Tableau site where the report is located

  • Project: The name of the Tableau project that contains the report

  • Report: The name of the report (Workbook, View, or Datasource) affected

  • Type: The type of the report (Workbook, View, or Datasource)

  • Groups/Users: The groups or users whose permissions were modified

  • Privileges: The specific permissions affected, such as View or Edit

  • Audit User: The username of the person who performed the action

  • Action: The specific permission-related activity performed

  • Description: A brief explanation of the change made to the report permissions
