Explore Tags
By default, the Tags security is set to Open Mode. In Open Mode, all users can view tags, and Master Tag Admins manage all tag-related actions (create, edit, delete). Tags can be accessed from the application's left panel. Users are now presented with three views: Tiles, Tree, and Grid.
If a tag has already been created, users can quickly search by tag name in the global search bar at the top or the search option available on the home page.
In the Data Catalog | Objects Summary (Tables, Table Columns, Reports, Report Columns, Files, and File Columns), users can now add a tag reference in the Business Description using the ‘@’ symbol. This improvement makes it easier to link and reference tags directly within Business Descriptions.
Tiles View
Tile view offers a clear and easy representation of Master tags. Each tag is displayed in a separate tile, and the number beside it represents the number of sub-tags in that Master tag. Users can also view the description of the master tag below the tag.
Master Tag
Click on the master tag (e.g., Sensitive Data) to view its description, child tags, total resources linked to it, and governance roles assigned to it.
Create Tag
Users can create a tag by clicking Create Tag on the right side of the page. A tag name is required, while a description and parent tag (from the dropdown list) are optional.
Suggest a Tag
If a user wants to suggest a tag, they can click 'Suggest a Tag' at the top right of the page.
This redirects to the service desk page, where the user can suggest a tag for the specific Master Tag.
Tag Summary
The Tag Summary has the following attributes:
Tag Description
It displays the business purpose behind creating a particular Tag. Users with meta-write permissions can edit the description, attach images, links, or tables, apply basic formatting options to the text, and add object references using the " @" annotation.
Child Tags
A Child Tag is a tag that exists one level below another tag in the tag hierarchy under a Master Tag. These tags inherit the broader context of the Master Tag but allow for more specific categorization of data assets. For example, under a Master Tag such as "Sensitive Data," Child Tags, such as "PII" (Personally Identifiable Information) or "Financial Information," can be created to tag and manage different types of sensitive data separately.
Total Resources
It displays all the objects associated with a tag and its child tag(s).
For Master tags/First-level tags and Parent Tags, there is an "Explore All Resources" option. This redirects to the Global Search page and shows all the data objects associated with that tag. Users can easily view and navigate directly to any of these objects.
Directly Associated Resource
Displays the data objects that are directly associated with that tag.
The following operations can be performed in the Directly Associated Resource section:
To delete a directly associated resource, select the resource and click the Delete icon
. A job will be initiated, and upon successful completion, the resource will be removed.
Click the 'Add Resources' option to associate various data objects with a specific tag. Users can link objects, including schemas, Tables, Table Columns, Terms, APIs, Data Stories, and more.
Click this icon
to enter full-screen mode. Press 'Esc' to exit.
Users can download directly associated resources by clicking the Download option.
Tag Details
Tag details display information such as tag type, Master Tag details, assignability, number of directly associated resources, child tags, parent tag, and popularity score.
Type: Type refers to the classification or category assigned to a tag, which helps organize and manage metadata more effectively.
Master Tag: Displays the master tag associated with that particular tag.
Is Master Tag: It indicates whether a particular tag is designated as a Master Tag or not.
Popularity: Popularity scores are determined by the following actions:
Viewing a tag increases the score by 1.
Refreshing the tag's summary page boosts the score by 1.
Posting a comment on a tag raises the score by 5.
Modifying the Tag Description of an object adds 3 points.
Child Tags: It displays the number of child tags associated with that particular tag.
Parent Tag: It displays the parent tag associated with that particular tag.
Is Assignable: It displays the status of whether the tag is assignable or not.
Directly Associated Resources: It displays the data objects directly associated with the tag.
User Activities
User Activities display details such as who created the tag, how it was created (using the application, LMDF, or API), the last modified date, the user who last modified it, and the tag's creation date.
Created By: It identifies the user who created the tag.
Created Source: It provides information on whether the tag was created by using the application, the API, or LMDF.
Last Modified Date: The 'Last Modified Date' indicates the most recent date and time when any changes were made to a tag.
Last Modified By: The 'Last Modified By' indicates the user who most recently made changes to the tag.
Created Date: The 'Created Date' refers to the date and time when a specific tag was initially created within the system.
Custom Fields
The Custom Fields section allows administrators to define and manage additional metadata fields that can be associated with tags. Custom fields can include text inputs, dropdowns, or date pickers, and they help tailor the tagging system to meet unique data governance, compliance, or operational requirements.
Custom Fields Configuration
Navigate to Custom Fields and select the Object Type as Tag. Select Global and click Add to add the required custom fields, such as Text, Code, Number, or Date.
Using ‘Manage Section Layout’ at the ‘Global’ Tag level, users can add, edit, or delete any custom section, drag the specified section name position, and hide any section name based on the requirement.
Tags 9 Dots
The Tags 9 Dots menu includes Custom Fields History, Change Master/Parent Tag, Associate Child Tag(s), Make Tag Non Assignable, Change Avatar, Update Governance Roles, Remove All Associated Resources, and Delete Tag.
Custom Fields History
Custom Field History displays the list of changes made to the Custom Fields (by whom, when, and what) over time. These records can be used to track changes, identify issues, and troubleshoot problems. Users can download the custom field history by clicking the "Download" button.
Change Master/Parent Tag
The Change Master/Parent Tag feature allows users to modify the master or parent tag according to their specific requirements.
Associate Child Tags
Associate Child Tag(s) enable users to modify the child tags according to their specific requirements. Users can add or delete the existing child tag(s).
Make Tag Non-Assignable
This action will stop the tag from being assigned to new objects in the future. However, any existing direct connections or associations will remain unchanged and still apply.
Change Avatar
This allows users to customize the avatar for any Tag (Master/Parent/Child) for easier identification. In the Change Avatar pop-up window, users can choose from a list of default avatars or select one from their local drive and save it. The new avatar will then be applied to the specific tag. Users can also remove their avatar by clicking the "Remove Avatar" button.
Remove All Associated Resources
This allows the removal of all directly associated resources from the tag, but it will not affect the resources associated with its child tags.
Delete Tag
Enables users to delete a specific tag from the hierarchy. Users have an option to delete the selected tag or the selected tag and its associated child tags.
Tree View
As the name suggests, Tree View displays all created tags in a hierarchical structure, showing Parent-Child and Subordinate relationships. The order begins with the Master Tag, followed by the Parent Tag, and then the Child Tags. SGA (Security & Governance Admin) users or those with a governance role on the Master Tag can create new tags. Users can search for specific tags using the left panel and sort the list alphabetically (A–Z or Z–A).
List View
The List View displays all tags in a structured, tabular format, including Master/First-level Tags and Parent Tags. It shows key details such as Tag Name, Tag Type, Description, Popularity Score, Child Tag Count, Associated Resources, Created Date, Created By, and Governance Roles (Owner, Custodian, Steward)
The List View presents information on all the tags in a list format. Below is the information that will be displayed in the List View:
Master Tag
Shows the name of the Master tag. If a user clicks on that master tag, it redirects to the master tag-specific page.
Parent Tag
Shows the name of the parent tag. If a user clicks on that parent tag, it redirects to the parent tag-specific page.
Tag
Displays the Tag Name.
Tag Type
Displays whether the tag is Non-Assignable, Data Asset Group, or regular Tag.
