Search Stories

All data stories are grouped under Story Zones and can be accessed from the Data Stories page. Clicking on a Story Zone displays all the Data Stories it contains. The search bar at the top allows users to search for both Story Zones and individual Data Stories.

Adding a Story

Users with Read-Write permissions can add a story to a Story Zone as a parent or child story.

Parent Story

To create a new Parent Story:

  1. Navigate to the Data Stories page, which displays all existing Stories.

  2. Please select the desired Story Zone from the dropdown menu, which shows the available Story Zones and any existing Parent Stories.

  3. Once you have chosen the Story Zone, give the Parent Story a unique name and create it within the chosen Story Zone.

Story Zone names must be unique within the same Story Zone.

Child Story

To create a child story, select the parent story they want to associate it with and provide a unique name for the new child story. They can create the child's story directly within an existing story or from the List of Stories page within a Story Zone. Once the child's story is created, it will automatically link to the chosen parent story.

A child story can be added to an existing child story, which becomes a Parent Story for the added child story.

Editing a Story

Editing a data story allows access to rich text and various features. However, only those with Read-Write permissions can make edits.

Functionalities available for editing a story:

  • Undo and Redo actions

  • Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough text

  • Select font style and size

  • Choose text color

  • Create ordered and unordered lists

  • Make text Subscript or Superscript

  • Indentation adjustment

  • Clear formatting

  • Code view

  • Insert link, image, video, table, horizontal line, and reports

  • Toggle Fullscreen

  • Code view

Code view is a powerful tool for technical users. It provides a direct and flexible way to work with code and format content according to specific coding requirements.

Embed Videos, Presentations, and Reports:

Users can provide the embedded code link to apply PowerPoint presentations, videos, or reports.

After editing, the story must be saved to make it available to others with at least Read permission on the Data Stories.

Operation in a Story Zone

Users can now reorder Story Zones or Stories using drag-and-drop functionality. An eight-dot icon appears when hovering over any Story Zone or Story. Users can click and drag this icon to move the selected Story Zone to the desired position.

Stories can only be reordered within the parent story or story zone and not outside of it.

Operations in a Story

The upcoming paragraphs will explain how to perform different operations in a Story.

Edit Name

The user can change the story's name to a new and distinct identifier. The new name must be different and not already used by another story within the same Story Zone. Only those with Read-Write permissions can edit the story's name.

The same story name can be used for different story zones, making it possible for a story name to belong to multiple zones.

Assigning Tags

Tags linked to a story show up below the story name. Tags can be added by searching in the search box or scrolling through the dropdown by clicking the + icon next to the tags. Tags can be moved from the tile bar by clicking the closing symbol. However, only those with Read-Write permissions can change the tags linked to a story.

Adding to Project

Adding Data Stories to Projects is possible by accessing the 'Add to Project' section, which displays the list of Projects linked to the Story. You can add item notes before connecting the story to a project, but only if you have read-write permissions for the story.

Adding a Story to a Project includes only that specific story. It does not add any child or parent stories to the Project.

Delete Story

Users with Read-Write permissions can delete a story, removing it from its Story Zone. However, a parent story with linked child stories can't be deleted unless those child stories are reassigned to another parent story or deleted. If you attempt to delete a Parent Story with Child Stories, you'll see an error message preventing the deletion.

Change Story Zone

Users with Read-Write permissions can modify a Story's Story zone by selecting a new zone from the available list. When a Parent Story is moved to a different Story Zone, the system automatically moves all its Child Stories to the latest zone. Before finalizing the move, the system displays a warning message to alert that the Child Stories will also be transferred along with the Parent Story.

The user can drag and drop the stories and story zones using the three-dot lines icon before the story/story zone.

Change Parent

Users with Read-Write permissions can change the parentage of a Child's Story. They can transform the Child's Story into a Root Parent or link it to a different Parent Story. The dropdown menu only displays the Parent Stories from the current Story Zone; it does not show Parent Stories from other Story Zones.

Change Author

Users with Read-Write permissions can change the Author of a Story. The Author is shown at the top right corner of the Story page. Only those with Read-Write permissions assigned in the Story Zone can be made Authors of a Story.

View References

The View References section shows any object on the tool that references a Data Story. For example, the Data Story may be referenced in the Business Description of a Data Catalog Object, which becomes visible in the View References section of the Data Story.

Add/Remove Story from Home Page

The System Admin can include or exclude Stories from the Home Page. The Home Page can display eight Stories as snippets, visible to all. Clicking on a snippet will redirect to the story's main page. However, if a user doesn't have Read permissions for a Story, they can only view the snippet on the Home Page without accessing the full content.

Add as a Custom Home Page Widget

The "Add as a Custom Home Page Widget" option allows users to pin a specific Data Story directly to their home dashboard as a widget. This feature enables quick and easy access to frequently referenced stories, presenting the information in a summarized, visually accessible format right on the home page.

Here, users need to add the Title, Help Text, and various configurable permissions, such as "Available to Viewers," "Available to Authors," "Removable by Users," and "Resizable by Users." The options "Available to Viewers" and "Available to Authors" are checked by default.

Endorsement on a Story

Read-permission holders can endorse a Story by entering a message and rating. The displayed rating is the average of all given ratings, showing the collective assessment. They can remove their rating but not others.

Audit Trials

In Audit Trails, all changes made to the Parent Story and Story Zone within the Data Stories category are now visible. These changes include updates to the Story Zone and individual stories, including additions, deletions, the name of the person who made the change, and the date of modification. Versioning support has also been added, enabling the tracking and management of changes across different versions of a story.
