Data Product Summary View

A Data Browser navigates to a Data Product Summary from the Featured Data Products section to evaluate whether the highlighted Data Product meets their business or analytical requirements, and to review its business context, governance details, quality indicators, and availability before deciding whether to subscribe to or consume the Data Product.

The Summary provides a consolidated overview of a Data Product, including:

  • Business and detailed descriptions that explain the Data Product’s purpose and context

  • Key metadata and attributes for quick understanding and reference

  • Associated data objects, related objects, and tags to support discovery and navigation

  • User ratings to help assess the Data Product’s value and adoption

Summary Tiles

The Summary Tiles section provides quick, high-level insights into the scope, usage, and quality of a Data Product through visual indicators and drill-down options.

  • Connected Sources: Displays the number of data sources connected to the Data Product through associated data objects.

  • Total Objects: Shows the total number of data objects linked to the Data Product. Clicking the Total Objects metric opens the Data Objects Insights pop-up window, which provides a consolidated view of a data product's technical and governance maturity by summarizing key object-level metrics.

    It highlights the total number of associated objects and the extent to which they are profiled, certified, and enriched with critical data elements, offering a quick view of overall coverage and readiness. Additional indicators reflect metadata curation quality, user ratings, and the availability of end-to-end lineage, helping stakeholders assess trust, transparency, and usability. The view also breaks down assets by object type. It identifies the primary source systems that contribute data, enabling a clear understanding of asset composition, source dependencies, and areas requiring further governance or enrichment before broader consumption.

  • Lifetime Subscribers: The total number of active subscribers to the Data Product. Selecting View Details opens a detailed view that lists Active, Expired, and Revoked subscribers, along with their Subscribed Date and Expiring/Expired Date. Clicking the Lifetime Subscribers metric opens the Subscribers pop-up window, which provides visibility into all subscription records associated with the data product.

    This window categorizes subscriptions into Active, Revoked, and Expired tabs, enabling stakeholders to easily track consumers' current and historical access status. A search option is available to quickly locate specific subscribers. If no active subscriptions exist, the window displays an informational message indicating that no subscriptions are currently found, helping data owners and governance teams quickly assess adoption and access activity for the data product.

  • Average Data Quality Score: Displays the average data quality score of data objects covered under Data Quality.

Left Sections

Descriptions

  • Business Description: A concise, high-level summary of the Data Product's purpose and value. It explains what business problem the Data Product solves and how it supports decision-making or operational workflows. This section helps Data Browsers quickly understand the business relevance and intended use of the Data Product.

  • Detailed Description: The Detailed Description provides a comprehensive overview of the product’s purpose, scope, and business value. It explains how the data product is designed to be used, the problems it solves, and the key insights it delivers. This section helps Data Browsers clearly understand the product’s context and applicability before adoption.

Product Details

  • Published By / Published On: Indicates who published the data product and the date and time when it was made available for consumption.

  • Last Modified By / Last Modified Date: Identifies the user who last updated the data product along with the corresponding date and time of the update.

  • Created By / Created Date: Specifies the user who created the data product and the date and time when it was initially registered in the system.

  • Product ID: A system-generated unique identifier used to track and reference the data product uniquely.

  • Popularity Score: A metric displayed on the Data Product that reflects the level of user engagement. The score is calculated based on recorded interactions such as views and comments, indicating how frequently the Data Product is accessed and referenced across the organization.

Tags

Tags help Data Browsers quickly identify and discover relevant Data Products by grouping them under common business or subject-based labels. A Data Product can have multiple tags, and the same tag can be applied across multiple Data Products, enabling efficient filtering and discovery of related Data Products.

For example, assigning a tag such as "customer details" to relevant data products enables the identification of all data products associated with customer information.

Data Objects

The Data Objects section allows Data Browsers to view all supporting assets associated with a Data Product, such as Tables, Files, Reports, and APIs, in a single consolidated view. These objects collectively represent the business concept delivered by the Data Product and provide visibility into the data sources that contribute to it. These objects are grouped into dedicated tabs with counts, enabling quick navigation across different object types. Each object displays key governance metadata, including the source connector, object name, business description, tags, and assigned roles. This section also supports searching, connector-based filtering, and controlled addition or removal of supporting objects, ensuring the data product remains well-governed and accurate.

These supporting objects—such as Tables, Files, APIs, and Reports—are grouped together because they collectively represent a single, coherent business concept within the Data Product.

Related Objects help Data Browsers understand how a Data Product is connected to other Data Products and supporting data objects within the data ecosystem. These relationships provide contextual clarity by showing logical, functional, and dependency-based connections, enabling Data Browsers to discover relevant data, identify alternatives or related Data Products, and understand how data is derived or reused across domains.

The supported relationship types—such as contains, is related to, calculates from, replaced by, filtered by, duplicates, qualifies, and is synonym to—help Data Browsers interpret how Data Products and data objects are associated, whether through composition, derivation, dependency, or equivalence. This contextual visibility improves confidence in data usage by complementing lineage with logical relationships and by providing insight into data quality, adoption, and reuse across the organization.

Ratings

Ratings help Data Browsers assess the trustworthiness and usefulness of a Data Product based on feedback from other consumers. The overall rating reflects the average of all submitted ratings. A star rating from 1 to 5 can be assigned to endorse a data object.

Right Section

Status

The Status indicates the current lifecycle state of the Data Product as visible to the Data Browser, such as Published or Pending Approval. It communicates whether the Data Product is available for subscription or consumption and may display the Data Browser’s subscription status and access validity, including expiry information.

Actions

For a Data Browser, the Actions section displays only the operations related to accessing and consuming a Data Product. When a Data Product is not immediately available, the Request to Subscribe action enables the Data Browser to submit a governed-access request. This request is reviewed and approved by the assigned Data Product or governance roles, ensuring controlled and compliant access.

Once the subscription is approved, the Data Browser can consume the Data Product based on the granted delivery access mode. The Actions section also provides visibility into the subscription status, allowing the Data Browser to track whether access is pending, active, expired, or revoked.

If the action button is ‘Subscribe’ instead of ‘Request to Subscribe’, the subscription mode changes from ‘By Request’ to ‘Instantly Available’. Instantly Available mode indicates that a Data Product can be accessed immediately by eligible Data Browsers without requiring subscription approval. When a Data Product is marked as Instantly Available, access is automatically granted based on the defined delivery access mode and governance policies, enabling immediate, controlled consumption.

Additional Info Section

Domain

The Domain represents the business or functional area to which the data product belongs, organized in a hierarchical structure, such as a domain and a sub-domain. It provides context about the business ownership, subject area, and governance under which the data product is managed.

Criticality

The Criticality of a data product on the Data Product summary page indicates its business importance and impact level, classified as Low, Medium, High, or Critical. It reflects how essential the data product is to business operations, decision-making, reporting, and regulatory processes, and helps set expectations for reliability, availability, and governance controls.

Sensitivity

The Sensitivity of a data product on the Data Product summary page indicates the level of data confidentiality and access restriction applied to the data product, typically classified as Public, Internal, Confidential, or Restricted. It reflects the sensitivity of the data based on factors such as privacy, regulatory requirements, and business risk, and helps enforce appropriate access controls and handling rules.

Metadata Curation Score

The Metadata Curation Score helps a Data Browser assess how well a Data Product is curated and governed before consumption. Based on the completeness of key metadata across the Data Product and its associated objects, the score indicates the product’s quality, readiness, and reliability, enabling informed decisions on subscription and usage within the permitted access level.

Based on the final percentage score:

  • 🔴 0–25% (Critical Alert): The Data Product has significant metadata gaps and is not ready for publication.

  • 🟠 25–75% (Needs Improvement): The Data Product is moderately curated; publishing is allowed, but a warning is displayed recommending a review of metadata completeness.

  • 🟢 75%+ (Ready to Publish): The Data Product is well curated and considered ready for publishing with high confidence.

Governance Roles

For a Data Browser, the Governance Roles section provides clear visibility into the accountable contacts for a Data Product. It displays the assigned Owners, Stewards, Custodians, and other configured governance roles, enabling Data Browsers to quickly identify the appropriate stakeholders for queries, clarifications, or issue resolution. Governance role assignments are view-only for Data Browsers and cannot be modified.

Top Users

Top Users displays the most active users associated with the Data Product based on interaction scores. From a Data Browser’s perspective, this section provides visibility into key contacts and frequently engaged consumers, helping identify knowledgeable stakeholders for collaboration or clarification. The score reflects interactions such as viewing the Data Product summary or adding comments, indicating the level of engagement with the Data Product.

Data Contract

For a Data Browser, the Data Contract provides clear visibility into how a Data Product is defined, governed, refreshed, and intended for consumption. It serves as a trusted reference that helps the Data Browser understand the data structure, expected data quality, refresh frequency, usage guidelines, and service-level commitments before relying on the Data Product.

The Data Browser can view and export the Data Contract to review key details, including Service Level Agreements, refresh policies, data availability expectations, latency, retention rules, and access or compliance constraints. This visibility enables informed consumption decisions, helps assess suitability for business use, and ensures the Data Product is used in alignment with defined governance and organizational standards.

Contract Version

Contract Version displays the contract's version number. The default version starts at zero and increments by +1 each time the data product is published.

For example:

  • When a data product is first created, the contract version is 0.

  • When it is published, the version changes to 1.0.

  • If it is redrafted and republished, the version is updated to 2.0, and so on.

For a Data Browser, the Contract Version helps track changes and stability of a data product over time. It clearly indicates whether the data contract has been updated since the last time the data product was used, allowing consumers to identify breaking or significant changes. By comparing contract versions, Data Browsers can assess the reliability of the data product, determine when updates occurred, and make informed decisions about dependencies, revalidation, and downstream impact before continuing to consume it.

Export Data Contract

The Export Data Contract option allows Data Browsers to download a data product's data contract in supported formats, such as PDF, YAML, and JSON.

For a Data Browser, the Export Data Contract option helps by providing easy access to the data product’s contract in consumable formats such as PDF, YAML, and JSON. It enables users to review data definitions, SLAs, refresh policies, and governance rules offline or share them with downstream teams and tools.

Lineage & Relationships

The Lineage & Relationships view enables Data Browsers to understand how a Data Product is connected to other assets within the governed data ecosystem. Based on their assigned access, Data Browsers can view the upstream and downstream connections of a Data Product, providing visibility into data origins, dependencies, and usage context.

From a lineage perspective, Data Browsers can trace how the Data Product is sourced, transformed, and delivered by viewing its upstream contributing objects and downstream dependent assets. This helps them understand where the data originates, how it is derived, and how changes to source or dependent assets may impact their consumption. Lineage visibility supports trust in the Data Product by offering transparency into data flow and dependencies without exposing unauthorized details.

From a relationships perspective, Data Browsers can view the logical associations between the Data Product and related tables, files, reports, APIs, and other Data Products. These relationships provide contextual understanding of how the Data Product fits within the broader enterprise data landscape, enabling Data Browsers to identify related or reusable assets and understand business-level connections beyond technical data flow.

Together, lineage and relationship visibility help Data Browsers make informed consumption decisions, assess impact and dependency risks, and confidently use governed Data Products aligned with enterprise standards and access controls.

References

The References section provides Data Browsers with read-only visibility into where a Data Product is referenced across the catalog. It presents a consolidated view of documented relationships and references, enabling Data Browsers to understand contextual dependencies, reuse patterns, and cross-product associations without modifying any metadata.

  • Reference Category: Indicates the type of reference, such as documentation or descriptive metadata, in which the data product is referenced.

  • Reference From: Specifies the source section or context (for example, business description or relationship type) from which the reference originates.

  • Reference Object Type: Identifies the type of asset (such as Data Product or Table) that is referencing or being referenced.

  • Reference Object: Displays the name of the related asset, enabling users to navigate directly to it.

This visibility helps Data Browsers identify dependencies, discover related Data Products, and understand how each Data Product fits within the broader governed data ecosystem, supporting informed, confident data consumption decisions.

Activities

The Activities section provides Data Browsers with a read-only, audit-style view of key actions and changes made to a Data Product over time. It displays events such as metadata updates, data contract modifications, relationship changes, and exports, along with the user or role involved and the corresponding timestamp. This visibility helps Data Browsers understand the data product’s evolution, assess its stability, and build confidence in its governance and reliability.

Filters in the Activities tab:

  • Users: Filter activities by user or role to identify ownership and accountability.

  • Activity Type: Allows filtering by specific actions (such as updates, exports, or relationship changes) to focus on relevant events.

  • Date Range: Restricts the activity log to a selected time period, making it easier to review recent changes or historical activity within a defined window.

Subscription

A Data Browser requests access to a Data Product through a governed subscription process. Upon approval by the Data Product Manager, the Data Browser is granted access to the Data Product in accordance with the defined delivery access mode and governance policies.

Here, the Data Browser clicks the ‘Request to Subscribe’ from the Actions section to access the Data Product. Once the ‘Data Product Manager’ approves the request, the Data Browser will have instant access to the Data Product. Stage 01

When a Data Product is configured as Instantly Available, eligible consumers are automatically granted access upon subscription without requiring an approval workflow. The access is provisioned immediately based on the defined delivery access mode (Data Preview or Data Read) and remains valid until the configured expiration date. This mode is intended for trusted, well-governed Data Products designed for broad, time-bound consumption, enabling faster access while maintaining centralized governance and auditability.

Consumption

Once subscribed to the Data Product, the Data Browser transitions into a Data Consumer role. As a Data Consumer, access is granted to the following delivery modes:

  1. View Access Instructions: Once a Data Browser is subscribed to a Data Product, the Access Instructions section becomes available to guide them on how to access and use the associated data objects in the data source. This section provides clear, step-by-step instructions for retrieving or interacting with the data, including required permissions, connection details, and supported access methods. It may outline how to query data using built-in query tools, connect through external SQL clients, handle exports, and understand access limitations based on subscription level. By providing standardized, curated guidance, Access Instructions help Data Browsers securely and efficiently consume the data product while adhering to governance and access policies.

  2. Preview Data: Once a Data Browser subscribes to a Data Product, the Preview Data feature becomes available, allowing them to view a sample of the actual data contained in the associated data objects. Data Preview presents a tabular, read-only snapshot of records and columns, helping users quickly understand the data structure, attribute values, and overall content without requiring full data access or external tools. This enables Data Browsers to validate data relevance, check data quality at a glance, and confirm whether the data product meets their analytical or business needs before deeper integration. By providing secure, controlled visibility into the data, Data Preview reduces onboarding time, increases confidence in data usage, and supports informed consumption decisions.

  3. View in Query Sheet: Once a Data Browser subscribes to a Data Product with Data Read access, the Query Sheet lets them explore and analyze the data directly using SQL within the platform. The Query Sheet provides an interactive workspace where users can write and execute queries against the data objects associated with the data product, allowing deeper inspection beyond preview-level access. Data Browsers can filter records, aggregate results, validate business logic, and perform exploratory analysis without needing external database tools.

Watchlist

The Watchlist allows a Data Browser to track Data Products of interest, even when they do not currently have access to those Data Products. When a Data Browser adds a Data Product to the Watchlist, it appears in the My Watchlist section of their account for easy reference, enabling them to stay informed about significant changes, such as:

  • Metadata Updates

  • Governance Role Changes

  • Publication Status

  • Associated Data Object Changes

  • Endorsements

The Watchlist helps users monitor the readiness and evolution of a Data Product before requesting access or subscribing.

Conversations

The Conversations Panel enables contextual collaboration within the application by allowing discussions, comments, and notes to be directly associated with specific pages, objects, or records. It streamlines communication by keeping discussions within the application, reducing the need for external tools like email or chat. A user can perform the following tasks:

  • @Mention: Tag team members to notify them about specific discussions.

  • In-Context Comments: Add comments and clarifications directly to the relevant object or record.

  • Rich Text Formatting: Format text, attach files, and insert links.

  • Historical Traceability: View and revisit past conversations for audit or reference.

The Ask a Question feature on the Data Product Summary page allows Data Browsers to submit questions directly related to a specific Data Product, such as its data content, usage, governance, or quality. The question is posted to the Question Wall, where it is automatically associated with the referenced Data Product and routed to the relevant Data Governance roles, which ensures that questions are addressed by the appropriate owners and stewards, enabling clear communication, faster clarification, and informed data consumption.

The previous sections described how the Data Browser accesses and subscribes to a Data Product.
