# Global Search Using the Global Search, users can search for objects using keywords. The search functionality retrieves relevant information within the application when a keyword is entered. Global Search is powered by Elasticsearch, a powerful search and analytics engine with an advanced search algorithm. Based on the Relevance Score, the algorithm takes into account multiple attributes, including Object Names, Titles, Business/Technical Descriptions, Terms, Tags, Custom fields, or Attributes. It supports filters for search results, allowing users to refine their searches and find relevant information. **The Search now includes:** * **Object-specific search:** Users can search for data objects, including databases, tables, files, reports, codes, APIs, terms, tags, data stories, projects, service desks, and question walls. * **Recently searched keywords:** Recent Searches offer quick access to past queries, enabling users to revisit them without retyping, saving time and effort. * **Sorting search results based on different criteria:** By providing multiple sorting options, users can quickly find the most relevant information according to their specific needs, such as Relevance, Name, Last Curated Date, and Last Crawled Date. * **Configure Synonyms for Search:** Data Catalog objects can be searched using configured keywords. {% hint style="info" %} Configure Synonyms for Search allows keywords to be added to data objects, making them easier to locate through search. {% endhint %} ## Get Started with Search The search can be accessed in two ways. 1. A search section appears on the home page, as shown below.\ **Note:** This search widget can be configured. If the user wants to hide the widget, go to My Resources > Manage Homepage Widgets, then hide it.

2. When navigating to other pages within the application, the search bar is available at the top, making it easy to access and search for objects.

{% hint style="info" %} Except for Question Wall, the search results are based on the user's assigned permissions and roles. {% endhint %} ## View Search Results When a user searches for keywords and clicks “Enter,” the system displays suggested results. Each displayed item includes the object name, object title, business description, technical description(if applicable), , breadcrumb, tags, quick actions such as Quick View, Add to Access Cart/Default Project, Add to Bookmark, and Copy to Clipboard, and last updated date. For Service Requests, all service requests and their status will be displayed on the search results page. {% hint style="info" %} For Service Requests, business users can only view the ones they have created, while authors can view all service requests. {% endhint %} Listed below are the different sections of the search page. ## Secondary Search Bar The secondary search bar helps narrow the search results for a specific keyword. For example, if a user enters a table name in the Global Search bar, the search results page shows all results related to that table. The user can then use the secondary search bar to find more specific tables' information.

## Total Search Results The results show the total number of objects found for the keyword.

## Results Per Page The Results per page option allows the user to choose the number of results to display per page from a drop-down list. The selected number determines the number of results shown per page. The available options are 20, 40(default), 80, 100.

## Sort By The Sort By functionality allows users to arrange their search results based on specific criteria, helping them quickly find the most relevant information.

**Key features of Sort By:** **Relevance** By default, the search results are sorted by relevance. This means they are arranged based on how well they match the search query. The item that best matches the search term appears first. The title and name of an object are given the highest priority in determining relevance.

**Alphabetical Order** When search results are sorted alphabetically, they are organized in ascending order (A to Z) or descending order (Z to A).

**Last Crawled** When sorted by Last Crawled Date, the most recently crawled information displays first, followed by older data.

**Last Curated** Last Curated refers to the timestamp indicating the most recent time a data set or metadata was updated. This includes Business Descriptions, Technical Descriptions, Custom Fields, Titles, and Terms.
