Editions & Deployment Variants
askEdgi is available in three deployment variants to meet different security, governance, and analytics needs: Public Edition, SaaS Edition, and On-Prem Edition. Each variant exposes a different set of features (workspaces, AI enrichments, recipe capabilities) and enforces governance and access differently.

Public Edition
Purpose: Open, self-service environment for public data exploration and light analytics.
Who: Public users, freelancers, and anyone allowed on the public instance.
Key capabilities
Access to Smart, Discovery, and Analytics modes (limited to public datasets and user-uploaded files).
Users can create recipes in their workspace, share them, and publish to the Public Marketplace (publish/consume).
Temporary/isolated workspaces with limited AI enrichment and file upload within defined size limits.
Recipes: Users can create, run, share, and publish recipes to the public Marketplace (allowing community consumption and monetisation/sharing).
SaaS Edition
SaaS is the full cloud offering and supports two SaaS configurations depending on customer choice:
SaaS - Data Analytics (Insights & Analytics)
Purpose: Full analytics (data + metadata) for organizations that want complete data processing and AI enrichments.
Key capabilities
Full Smart / Discovery / Analytics modes across catalog tables and connected data sources.
Upload files, add data objects from supported connectors, run heavy data transformations, and visualizations.
Full AI enrichments (text/classification, sentiment, advanced calculated fields) and Knowledge Agent integration.
Full recipe lifecycle for internal use; Marketplace recipes can be added and executed according to org policy.
Recipes: All kinds of recipes (data and metadata recipes) can be created and executed.
SaaS - Metadata Analytics (Metadata Analytics)
Purpose: Focused metadata discovery and governance for customers that only need catalog/metadata analysis.
Key capabilities
Analysis limited to metadata cataloged in OvalEdge (OvalEdgeDB / “-1” connector). Uploading arbitrary data files for analysis is not available in this configuration.
Discovery, profiling summaries (top values, profiling stats), lineage/relationship analysis, and other OE-catalog-based insights.
Knowledge Agent is available for product and metadata assistance.
Recipes: Marketplace and internal recipes may be added/executed, but only recipes that operate on OvalEdge metadata / the -1 connector are runnable in this configuration. If a recipe requires direct data access (S3, uploaded files, other connectors), it will not run in Metadata-only SaaS.
On-Prem Edition
The On-Prem Edition is intended for organizations requiring full control over data, metadata, and infrastructure. It is specifically designed to support metadata analytics, ensuring all operations remain within the client’s internal network.
Key capabilities
On-Prem supports Metadata Analytics only (catalog search, profiling, metadata insights using OvalEdgeDB / -1 connector).
No Workspace analysis for arbitrary uploaded files, no external cloud AI enrichment, and no general recipe execution that requires external connectors.
Recipes
Only metadata/OvalEdge (-1 connector) recipes can be executed.
Recipe creation and consumption are limited to operations entirely on the local OE catalog.
Role Configuration for Metadata Analytics
Any role, regardless of license level, can be selected to perform metadata analytics.
Best practice is to assign this capability to a role with a limited number of users, ideally 4 to 5, to maintain stable workspace performance.
Governance Scope
Fully adheres to internal data governance and compliance frameworks.
No external data exchange or dependency on cloud infrastructure.
The local enterprise environment manages role-based access and audit logging.
